🌟The Bright Side: California’s Yurok tribe reclaims ancestral homelands in major landback deal
Thousands of acres (roughly 189km2)Â of stolen land have been returned to California’s Yurok tribe, more than 120 years after it was stolen during the region’s Gold Rush, according to a conservation deal announced Thursday. Indigenous people’s knowledge is increasingly seen as vital in tackling climate change. The tribe plan to reintroduce fire as a forest management tool, remove invasive species and plant trees while helping to restore salmon and wildlife.Â
