Colombia turns to Venezuela for help as tens of thousands displaced by guerrilla violence

With 80 people killed and 40,000 displaced by violence wrought by the leftist National Liberation Army (ELN) militia’s fight with rival armed groups over drug trafficking territory in northeastern Colombia, the Latin American country’s President Gustavo Petro reached out to Venezuela on Thursday to propose a “joint plan to eradicate armed gangs on the border.”
