Trump’s plan to shutdown USAID would lead to rise in conflict and insecurity, expert says

US President Donald Trump’s decision to lay off most of the Agency for International Development’s workforce – a government aid agency – would have heavy consequences on health, water and sanitation in countries where missions are carried out, said Rosa Freedman, professor of law, conflict and global development at the University of Reading. Freedman said the attempted disbandment of USAID would also lead to a rise in conflict and insecurity across the world as countries benefitting from US aid would likely see an increase in crises and instability.
