Massacre of hundreds casts doubt on new Syrian government’s ability to rule

Nearly 1,500 people, mostly Alawite civilians, have been killed by security forces in just a few days, throwing into question the ability of Syria’s new government to maintain peace in a country still suffering the effects of more than a decade of civil unrest.
