Ivory Coast opposition leader Thiam barred from presidential election

An Ivory Coast court on Tuesday estimated that opposition leader Tidjane Thiam had lost his Ivorian nationality, preventing him from running in the October presidential election. The court believes that Thiam, who became head of the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast (PDCI) this month, forfeited his nationality when he acquired French citizenship in 1987.
