Mark Carney, an experienced former central bank boss, on Friday took the reins of Canada as he was sworn in as the country’s new prime minister. Carney, who is replacing Justin Trudeau who spent a decade at the helm, has vowed to take a firm stance against US President Donald Trump who has made a series of threats against Canada, including a bid to make it the “51st state” of the United States.
