How is a new Pope elected?

Catholic cardinals will enter a sealed conclave this Wednesday to elect the next pope. The 133 scarlet-clad men will not engage in debate or discussion, but will cast secret ballots to choose the 267th pontiff. To be elected, the next head of the Catholic Church must secure a two-thirds majority—a process that could take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks. Yinka Oyetade has this explainer.
