India and Pakistan: A history of conflict since 1947
At least 36 people were reported killed in clashes between India and Pakistan early Wednesday, following a sharp escalation in tensions. Pakistan condemned India’s missile strikes as an act of war, while the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accused Islamabad of being complicit in last month’s militant attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir, which left at least 28 tourists dead. Pakistan has strongly denied any involvement. France24’s International Affairs commentator Douglas Herbert provides further analysis on the developing situation.
