Israel requests hostage return for ceasefire amid spiraling Gaza humanitarian crisis

Israel has offered a 45-day ceasefire if Hamas releases half of the hostages still held in Gaza, Hamas said on Monday, adding that it had refused Israel’s request for the Palestinian militants’ disarmament. The UN said that, one month into Israel’s blockade on aid entering Gaza, the humanitarian situation is the worst it has been since the war started.
