Mexico: US aid cuts threaten medical care for thousands of migrants
In a move that shocked the humanitarian community, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on March 10th that Washington would cut 83% of its USAID-funded international aid programs. This sudden decision is already causing significant consequences. In southern Mexico, the Swiss NGO Doctors of the World has warned that it may soon be forced to halt its operations, leaving thousands of migrants without essential medical care. They are one of the few aid organizations still active in the region. Correspondents Laurence Cuvillier and Matthieu Comin filed this report.
