Réunion island battles Chikungunya outbreak

Réunion Island in the French Indian Ocean is grappling with a Chikungunya outbreak, with around 100,000 people—one in every nine residents—thought to be infected. A vaccination campaign is in progress, targeting the elderly and other at-risk groups. Since the disease is spread by mosquitoes, efforts are focused on halting its transmission at the source.
