Rio de Janeiro carnival kicks off amid soaring temperatures
The biggest party in the world is under way as Rio de Janeiro’s mayor handed over the key to the city to its Carnival monarch on Friday, opening King Momo’s five-day reign over the festivities. Taking place in summer amid soaring temperatures, performers and carnival goers have to brace the heat to celebrate in the city. FRANCE 24’s Jan Onoszko reports.
