Spain to grant work permits to hundreds of thousands of irregular migrants

Unlike many of its European neighbours, the Spanish government has just adopted a reform which could grant full legal status to irregular migrants, giving an estimated 900,000 foreigners permits in the next three years. The change to the migration rules will begin in six months, in May 2025. The country believes migrants are an opportunity for the economy, which lacks workers in a number of sectors and has an ageing population. FRANCE 24’s team on the ground reports.
