A long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza began Sunday after a three-hour delay. The deal between Israel and Hamas has been negotiated with the help of mediators including Qatar, Egypt and the US. The Biden administration and president-elect Donald Trump applied pressure to Israel, pushing it to accept the truce agreement before Trump’s inauguration Monday.
