Venezuelan opposition calls for election boycott
In Venezuela, regional parliamentary elections are taking place today. The country remains one of the poorest in Latin America, and the regime of President Nicolás Maduro stands accused of widespread human rights abuses – including the torture, disappearance, and imprisonment of political opponents. Many opposition leaders are in hiding, following presidential elections that were widely condemned by the international community as fraudulent.
